For starters, we have the midwest (frugal) mindset, which colors our opinions about what restaurants are affordable, so we might not be willing to try the higher-priced places. You may not be getting an accurate impression of the food from us locals. There's an endless amount of chain restaurants opening up in suburbia, but that's the opposite of 'foodie.' How many restaurants opened in our main entertainment district in the last 2 years? I can think of one: Fredo's, which just opened. I'm just reiterating that it's far from being a 'foodie' city, and I find myself having to go to the same spots over and over. There was so much variety and so many unique restaurants.ДЇor the record, I'm not saying Wichita doesn't have some good food. I visited there thinking.mid-western city in 's not going to blow me away. And it's the same issue with nearly everything else. Those are my options for hip places that are unique to Wichita and places I'd want to take a newcomer and boast about my city. Four years ago I'd say the Anchor, but their quality has degraded so much I can't go there anymore. Do I want to go a hip restaurant that has a unique menu? Ok, well.I can go to Public or Monarch. I find myself having to go the same restaurants over and over and over again. There's one or maybe two good versions of each cuisine. It's not that we're necessarily missing a cuisine, although Wichita's Italian is pretty sad. Then you can easily drive back downtown and get ramen or something to not feel quite so Midwest.

Just the one main street with carnival rides and fried food. Oh, and it will sound pretty down home but maybe my favorite thing to do is go to the Valley Center Fall Festival. So yeah, kind of boring, more conservative than I would prefer, no legal weed yet even though the urban centers are trying to push it through. Not sure if it would interest OP or not but my husband really enjoys going to Sente, he has Go club there every Sunday and is trying to get more people into the game. I just saw 'Monet to Matisse' a few months ago and there were some pretty impressive pieces for being in Wichita. Not world class art, in my opinion, but the traveling shows we get are interesting.

We have Final Friday art shows on the last Friday of every month and a lot of places participate in that, and the Wichita Art Museum is currently free on Saturdays. If it wasn't for the beautiful storm season I don't know how I would justify living in Kansas honestly, lol. My favorite tradition here is sitting on my front porch and watching the thunderstorms roll through. It's great for getting out and walking or biking, and you're close to everything going on downtown while living somewhere much quieter. I live in Riverside and definitely recommend it. For the same price as simply living in NYC or San Fran, you can easily afford to live here and fly on a mini-vacation every single weekend. However, we make up for it by the fact that COL is dirt cheap. Most people here get married right out of highschool and have all the kids they plan to have by the time they're 26.ДЄll in all, I don't think you'll feel out of place. You're right that the dating scene sucks. Almost no one here is in-your-face about it, but if you're the type of person who wants to get into a debate about religion after something so small as someone saying 'I'll meet you after church,' then you're going to hate it here. However, if you're the type of person who can talk politics with someone who has an opposing view without getting angry - or have a conversation about daily life without bringing politics into it - then you'll be fine no matter where you live in the city. If you're the type of person who gets offended just at the site of a Trump-Pence campaign sign, then you'll have a bad time. Very few people here are vocal about politics.
